It's all about safety. Those players are getting paid millions of dollars, nobody wants to see them get hurt. Plus, the average linebacker is probably 275 pounds and can run 40 yards in 11 seconds. These guys are huge, strong and when they hit somebody they hit really hard. Without protection, a football players career would be less that one whole game.

But would be more enjoyable to watch! If you play a contact game, then you shouldn,t be wrapped in cotton wool!

I beg to differ , I much rather watch them in there full coverage pads and uniforms then in there skimpy man shorts bumping and grinding other men , that's just not my cup of scrumpy . but to each there own . drinkup.gif

Watching a game with no pads would suck. Do you really think some guy is going to tackle a 250lb running back, running full speed, without a helmet? Just think how hard that running backs knees would be if they slammed into the other guys' head. The would-be tackler would never put himself into that position. You'd probably enjoy motorcross more if the riders wore only speedos instead of full protection gear.

i would play without pads if a 275 lb guy ran a 40 in 11 seconds...lol....

most NFL players run 40's in anywhere from 4.3 to 5.5 seconds.........they would be playing baseball in they ran 11's.......

Aussie rules is where its at.....dont get me wrong i love the NFL for its purpose of entertainment...but those are some crazy bastards in Rugby.

Go Man U....how about that 9yo....signing with the big club...did tevez get signed yet?

My hat goes off to you... you know your football!!!

As a spectacle the NFL is great but I just grew up watching big men clash week in week out without padding. Sure some guys in Rugby League use pads but they are either rubber or a similar substance, not plastic and fibre glass.

The 9yr old you refer to is Rhain Davis. An Aussie despite those wicked brits claiming him as his own. Also, Man Utd HAS signed Carlos Tevez but he'll miss first few games through injury.

I'll post the Rhain Davis clip and the League Hits clip again below grinning-smiley-003.gif

My son is playing football now , started 2 a day practice last week , he runs the 40 in 4.5 sec flat , AND hes only 14 and he does it while wearing full pads

Well anyway Im curious what the average salary is for a rugby player ?

NFL its about 2-4 million a yr or higher Id think , but dont find it published thus far

BEARS WIN , PATS LOST , CHIEFS LOST ..

That was interesting. But why was the ball being ignored when the players were in a scrum? The players were all pushing and shoving and the ball was just sitting there being ignored.

Haven,t long come back from Oz & NZ. I,d like to send Gareth Jenkins and his entire coaching staff over there permanently, and bring my friend Mike Ruddock back. I have a sneaky feeling that the Frogs may spring a surprise this year. Very much looking forward to it. food-smiley-004.gif

they aren't ignoring the ball. the hooker is the only player who can bring the ball back into the scrum. when in position the scrum half will pull the ball out of the back of the scrum a pass to the fly half (if i rember correctly) and the pass begin down the field.

there was a comment about getting hit by a 275lbs guy. because of the lack of pads players know that it hurts to hit and get hit. in the us, the players that get hurt the most during tackling are the former football player because they aren't used to hitting without pads. soccer players make the coversion better because they are used to playing with out a break every 10-15 sec and they "hit" without pads.

i played union in college...it was great.

I played football , and I wouldnt want to do it without pads , ever , you take the velocity of a 250 lb man hitting at a dead run another 225 lb man at a dead run and its going to hurt , I dont care how ya prepare or how tough ya are ... I dont think there is any comaparison between football and soccer , soccer is not ment to be contact sport is it ?

Nobody ever did say what the average pay is for rugby player ..

the other issue that comes to mind a player with pads on the average temp inside the pads is 15 degrees above the outside air temp , so you take last week my boy was practicing at 95 degrees in full pads so it was more like 110 in the pads , thats why the breaks come into play between plays .

Average pay for a rugby or rugby league player varies depending on where they play. It is nothing like what NFL stars earn because there is no bigger sporting market than the US. It's simple economics really

That's the beauty of Australia, you don't need one!

It is largely rmoved from the rest of Australia because it is so far away from metroplis cities like Sydney or Melbourne.
