I have both Kill Bill's havent seen them yet either. I know I suck. Just doesn't seem like my type of movie but than again American Beauty didn't either.

My wife isn't a big Tarantino fan or anything and she loved both Kill Bill movies.
They can be appreciated on a lot of levels, on their reference to old kung fu movies, the great storyline, the dialogue, the cinematography, it's all good.

Kill Bill had isn't horror or gore... if you can sit through Hostel, Kill Bill will be a walk in the park

Lots of blood in it but it's more like campy over the top kung fu movie blood.
Cutie_Pie
See I am not much of a kung fu movie fan I will give it a shot though the only kung fu movies I liked were the ones that were also something else to them like the one with Jackie Chan and I cant think of his name the Guy from FRIDAY.

And I liked Romeo Must Die. not like I LOVED it but for a mainly kingfu movie I liked it.

I will give them a try sometime soon.

We watched the new larry the cable guy movie (health inspector ) I liked it but im a country hick , but if you dont like farting , shitting , and general nasty language I wouldnt watch it ..

Well my wife isn't either. She didn't enjoy them as a martial arts movie or as homage to old japanese kung fu films but just for how good they are on their own. That's the cool thing, you can enjoy them as a standalone work or for all the stuff they reference.

They aren't so much like a modern martial arts movie, more of a throwback to old kung fu movies out of the 70's. I remember watching ones starring Bruce Li (not not Bruce LEE) and they were really campy, so much so that they were humourous. The scenes with Pai Mei in Kill Bill are a lot like those old films.

I watched Larry the cable guy last night I guess it was ok. had a lot of funny parts, but why did I think Jamie Presleysp?? was supposed to be in it.

I am not even into Kung Fu movies or gore but Kill Bill is still great! The most violent scene is the opening one featuring the bride, which is more shocking than violent!

The over the top blood is more hilarious than gory and the dialogue, cinemaphotography, storyline are all great es Gnappy suggests

Well anything with Will Ferrell is good for a few laughs and most likely a lot more, but I haven't seen it.

Bondi I seen it, I liked it, not movie theatre like but worth watching. That is the one where he is in some country in Asia right at first?? I think that is it.

I want to see taladega nights, I am not a huge will farrel fan, but thought this looked good.

Ya i would have to say that Beach was a good movie as well as far as Tallledega goes if you think the previews look good go cause there is a ton more laughter that they do not show.

I thought so too, the girl i was with at the time was in love with him so caught it at the movies and it is pretty good. Leo goes to Thailand on holiday and is looking for a new experience, catches onto this urban legend of the perfect beach. Rafts across a few miles and hikes through fields of Marijuana plantations run by some sort of cartel to reach this hidden society. Living completely of their won free will on the most perfect beach. It all goes pear shaped and Leo kinda loses the plot for a while. It shows no matter how good people have it, they'll always want more

Also you have gotta try and see this move called Chopper. It's based on an Aussie underworld character and it's all true which makes it both funny and amazing at the same time

Fabian: Whose chopper is this?

Butch: Zed's.

Fabian: Who's Zed?

Lots going on on this thread adn so much to comment on that I'll probably forget half of what I want to say. I'm not going to quote everything I'm referring to cuz it will take too long.

first:

bondi, I've heard the wallace's soul thing before. Years ago roger ebert (local movie critic) was asked teh question about that, and here was the reply. should sum up what people said here. But I still like the soul idea second only to... whatever the viewer thinks would be that marvelous and beautiful. ***DAMN!!! I've spent 45 minutes looking for the damn Q&A article that I was referring to and can't find it. Turns out it wasn't ebert like I thought. oh well. here's a link that explains and also kinda debunks a couple theories, including teh soul theory.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulp_Fiction

Second and nearly final cuz now it's way too late to be messing around here...

I love tarantino projects. especially PF, kill bill, sin city, destiny turns on the radio, and countless others. and of course, True Romance will always be an all-time favorite of mine. Can you think of the xylephone song at the end of True Romance titled You're so Cool? Well, at my wedding during the recesional, that's what I had played and also when we were announced into the reception. It was awesome. the acoustics in our church just banging around that music was so freaking cool!!!

Okay. there's more shit I wanted to comment on, but I don't remember any of the posts because I've been in this freaking reply window for nearly an hour. I'm just gonna hit this little reply button now.

Also, at the risk of sounding gay and inadvertently giving belicked and evade hardons, I will say that I do think Leonardo Dicaprio is a good actor. that damn heartthrob syndrome that was brought on by titanic really fucked it up for any guy who wanted to say they like his work. But he's grerat in Iron Mask. his acting brilliance is evidenced in that movie by the way that you really believe louis and phillipe are two separate actors. i mean, you can totally see it in his face which character he is playing.

Catch me if you can is also a great movie that he plays very well. If you like that movie, please, please, please read teh book. It is an auto-biography by the abernathy and it is absolutely hilarious and amazing. The book is a million times better than the movie and it will allow you to appreciate the story more. and it's such a quick read.

I was sure Ebert commented on the Wallace's Soul thing too. He wrote an entire article on why PF "worked" if I'm not mistaken. OK, found it. Here's what Ebert says:
"The more you watch the movie, the more you're convinced that there is a hidden spiritual level in the plot. Much has to do with the famous briefcase which belongs to Marcellus Wallace, and which Jules and Vincent capture in the apartment. We never see its contents, which emit a golden glow. There have been countless theories about what's in it ("an Egg MacGuffin," said somebody at Virginia), but of course we will never know. What we can notice is that the combination to its lock is "666" -- the sign of Satan. That has led to speculation that the Band-Aid on the back of Marcellus' neck conceals the number "666." Is Marcellus the devil? That's unknowable, but reflect that Jules, who believes he has been saved by God, lives -- while Vincent, the scoffer, dies."
Actually the entire article is worth reading:http://www.godamongdirectors.com/tarantino/faq/secrets.html

I've always liked that song too. It sounds so much better with Patricia Arquette's monologue with it but it is good on its own too and has been used in plenty of commercials. It's by Hans ZImmer and on the soundtrack anyway it's called You're So Cool, but I don't know the official name of the song, but could hunt it down if you needed it. I never used it in my wedding, but I did the video slide show at my sister's wedding and used that song. It's a good song for a wedding without being overused tripe like Celine Dion or Shania Twain. puke1.gif

Aviator isn't really sappy. It's the true story of Howard Hughes. The mother of all eccentrics. It was a decent movie. Not great but totally worth watching.
Remember when Burns owns the casino and is bedridden with a beard and long finger and toenails.
Burns: Smithers, I've designed a new plane. I call it the "Spruce Moose", and it will carry two hundred passengers from New York's Idyllwild Airport to the Belgian Congo in seventeen minutes!
Smithers: That's quite a nice model, sir.
Burns: Model?

That's based on Howard Hughes.

Apparently when a soul is taken from one's body it is taken from the back of the neck hence the band aid at the back of the neck. Great article though grinning-smiley-003.gif

Yeah I DL that song thanks mate, I might use it in some capacity. I am having a very non traditional wedding in a sense I do not want the same songs played at my wedding that every other moron has had at their wedding.

If anyone has any obscure songs or alternative song ideas please pass them on! I have a few songs in mind already but with the Ceremony and Reception to cover I'll need a healthy library of music

What is the shania twain song they play at tons of weddings??? forever and always?? i can't picture the married couple's first dance to that if that's what you're talking about.

We danced to Come What May from the Moulan Rouge soundtrack. Awesome song, great movie. Many people at our reception hadn't even heard the song before so it was even cooler. There's also a country song by Clint Black and his wife something-or-other called when I said I do. tha'ts a good song to use for the first all married couples dance where the DJ will say everyone who has been married less than 8u hours, 1 year, 5 years et cetera, et cetera, will you get to the longest-married couple. you could also use that song for a first dance. There's millions of other songs I can think of, but I've already been accused of being long-winded in this thread. Can't imagine why? confused-smiley-013.gif

Whenever they play this or anything by Celine Dion as a first dance song at a wedding my wife immediately looks at me cuz she knows I will be rolling my eyes. But I'm about as cynical as they come haha.

I HATE HATE HATE when they play I will survive, respect, or we are family!!!! I strongly advised our DJ not to play any of those songs. Anytime any one of those songs are played, all the girls get on the floor and turn into complete femi-nazis while dancing all crazy and spiting poor Everyman. Beware. definitely not a good message to be brought up at a wedding.

We met with the head of the DJ company a few days before the wedding. He was a middle aged dude with a pony-tail which almost always means they're pot smokers. Sure enough, I start talking to this dude and I am certain he is baked, but he was a cool guy to chat with. Both being fans of classic rock we were exchanging trivia and our favourite bands/songs. But he wasn't writing much down as far as what we wanted played and what we didn't want played. I didn't want any country music as I despise it, except for old school country, and I said if someone requests a song or two of it, that was OK. I also had some other stipulations I wanted followed. I was thinking as we left, "this guy isn't going to remember any of that!"
Sure enough, wedding day rolls around and the first 7 songs (after the initial songs we picked) played were all country!

typical. our DJ was awesome. Played exactly what we wanted and didn't what we didn't. he kept the dance floor jumpin' and didn't bore you with complete version of songs. You know how the beginning is cool then it just gets old like at the 2 and a half minute mark? Well, he would just mix into the next song. It was awesome. He never gave anyone a chance to take a break.

I did request one song that he never played, though. I wanted him to play Can a Nigga get a Table Dance. That one never was queued up for some reason. unsure.gif

My only warning on the Aerosmith is that he kind of gets a little carried away at the end to the point what starts out as a nice song to dance to turns into a little screamy. Kinda reminds me of when Marty McFly is playing Johnny Be Good in Back to the future and goes berzerk at the end of the song.
