Fair Dinkum basically means "really?"

i.e "Did you hear steve's wife slept with another bloke?"

"fuck... Fair Dinkum?"

I think the American version of "muffin top" is love handles.
*

From Bondi's description, "muffin top" is the extreme form of "love handles." And he is absolutely correct about living with an absence of mirrors (and the least bit of personal vanity to know what mirrors are for. sad.gif
bondiguy
I am as vain as they come!

Muffin Top is not necessarily the "extreme" love handles, more just they way how men or womens fat resemble's a muffin top when it over hangs jeans/pants that are too tight or too low riding

Word: Mate

Now I know this is not a uniquely Australian word but we Aussies use it in a very unique way. Basically "mate" means friend, companion etc but basically everyone in Australia is a "mate" whether they be your best friend or some guy you just abused in a bout of raod rage.

e.g 1: Hello mate, how are you today?
e.g 2: Where the fuck did you get your licence from mate? You're a fucking retard!

I just love how we use this word

haha, you've only missed 25 weeks.

anyway, we hardly ever use the word "mate" in Canada in that sense althugh I here British people use it all the time to. We don't really have one term to encompass all those situations like you do with mate. We use various terms like dude, man, brother, guy, douchebag.

25 weeks? Well thats the Australian way! laughing-smiley-017.gif

We use "dude" and "man" a little but that has been brought in by American culture. Brother is used sparingly mostly by Aussie's of pacific Island/New Zealand background. You will never hear an Aussie bloke say Guy or Douchebag... you can get punched for that shit here

Damn, and I was thinking they spoke english there tongue.gif

I have a Canadian slang for ya. Actually if you ever meet another "mate"from Saskatchewan and they are wearing a hooded sweatshirt, compliment them on there bunny hug. The rest of the universe calls it a hoodie or hooded sweatshirt but for some reason people from Saskatchewan call it a bunny hug, no idea why.

ooo speaking of a Pom came into my work... and he had a wife and a little boy with him. and the little boy in a cute little english accent said to his mom, "Excuse me miss where is your husband?" and she laughs and goes, "Where is your wife?" I don't know... the accent made it... I was trying so hard not to laugh.

and the husband... he looked a wee bit like you mr. bondi. At least he reminded me of you.

After our discussion about differences between New Zealand and Australia(there is a wiki page devoted to this in fact), I was watching the NZ all blacks thrashing of Canada and was listening to the NZ announcers and I can indeed notice a difference in accents. When they say 10 it sounds like teen. Their accent sounds kinda like how the Simpsons tried doing the Aussie accents, at lease in my opinion.

Oh god the Simpsons take on our accent is the worst. As a rule most American's that try and do our accent end up sounding like Kiwi's. It is frustrating when I watch LOST. You have the actual Aussie Clare and then when they do flashbacks they sound nothing like Clare.

Oh and I saw bits and pieces of that game. The All Blacks are a dominating team! Have you guys qualified for the world cup?

They sure are!
I don't follow rugby too closely but watch it now and again. Canada's rugby program is getting pretty good in recent years. We're still not near the top of the heap in the international world but it's not like our soccer team vs the rest of the world. In rugby we can actually compete.
And Canada did qualify for the world cup in a thrashing of the US team.
