What are metal horns some of you may ask? They are: index finger and pinkie raised proudly as the sign of the beast, ready for an unholy wave to your favorite demon king. Or... something else??

Many maintain that Ronnie James Dio invented it. He got it from his grandma, who used to flash "the horns" as protection against the evil eye. Or, if you pointed the horns at someone, you were giving the evil eye, according to Grandma Dio. RJD would flash the horns in concert and it took off.

Others claim that Gene Simmons invented it from how his hand was poised on an album cover.

Other thoughts?

The sign comes from the Hawaiian surf and popular culture. Ususally. the hand with the thumb and pinkie finger raised are wiggled off to one's side. The saying that went with it originally was "shaka buddha," often also followed by "Hang loose." When I was stationed in Hi in late 1974 - late 1976, it was completely ingrained in the popular culture. The salute (or wave) is now just called the Shaka. It even made the news recently when some enlisted Hawaiian serviceman forgot and "saluted" an officer this way. The officer got all bent out of shape and brought the dude up on charges. ( Apparently the officer wasn't from Hi. )
Click on the link and read about it.

The "Shaka Bro" is just a modification of the original that has entered the beach culture. That heavy metal bands have picked it up and wave to the audiences with it, doesn't surprise me. It has nothing to do with evil or the devil's horns. It was original used as a friendship greating...allmost a blessing.

Hey, that's cool. I was just razzing you a little bit. I do the same thing and I don't ever work the graveyard shift.

I have met a few girls in the graveyard, though. Wish they weren't always so cold.

i always thought that it was cuz of that gene simmons album cover. then agen its not something i've read into, nor something i plan on reading into.

i'm not a fan of the devil horns i've always seen it as a bit cheesy. cept at a slipknot gig. i'll knock out a few devil horns for them nails bastards. god i love slipknot live. any other band i see and its a raised fist that will generally just do it for me. maybe i'll throw a few shapes as well in the pit. who knows. depends on the band.

are there many fans of metal on here? i have to say i'm not really a fan of old metal like maiden and shit like that. cant be doing with it to be honest. give me some of that new age hardcore/metalcore anyday :2thumbsup:
