In another rare moment, I have something cool going on in my life. Tonight, the Rolling Stones (yes THEE Rolling Stones) play in my town of Regina. I never thought they would ever play a gig in this jerkwater berg, but here they are. I've always wanted to see them in concert but figure they's be dead before I'd ever get the chance. They're one of my favourite bands and I saw their concert film at the Imax and they put on one hell of a show despite their senior citizen status. The concert is about the biggest production of any band in the world: 5 storey stage. Main stage is huge plus a 200 foot catwalk to the second stage. 80 semi trailiers to transport it. 60 foot bigscreen. 36 MILES of wiring. And enough watts to make even Abe Simpson's ears bleed.
It'll be a 40,000 person outdoor stadium concert, the bars are open later and they lifted the smoking ban at the stadium specifically for Keith RIchards. The whole city is going Stones crazy. It may not be a big deal in a huge city but here, it's pretty elite. The band rented an entire 4 star hotel. It should be fuckin awesome! And that is all.

What's with you Canadians and the letter U? I can't figure it out. It doesn't make any type of phonetic sense to me. And since I only like to research things about boobs, science, definitions, and simpsons, i thought I ask you. Does that extra U create a diphthong that we just aren't covering in the States? For me favorite and color are spelled pretty much phonetically. favourite and colour just don't seem right.
And while we're at it, what's the deal with theatre?

But I will read it after work cuz that's the kind of nerd I am) I guess it all makes sense, but it still doesn't in a way. canceled is another one that we spell with only one L... however, we lazy Americans keep fucking that one up too. It interests me, believe it or not. But it also possesses me.. Like when i see a billboard or commercial or something and things are misspelled or completely grammatically incorrect. and I abhor seeing "alright" tha'ts not even close to being a word. On the other hand. I make a lot of spelling and grammar mistakes here along with my fair share of typos... but I'm here for fun, it's not my job. In any case... the English language is pretty fucked up! but not nearly as fucked up as engrish!!

A lot of people don't think speling is important. I dissagree. Even though you can understand what the person is trying to say, a misspelled word detracts from the "readability" of a sentance. But, since this is a boob site and not an English site, we need to over look bad grammer.

I agree and I agree i see errors all the time in the newspaper, but it's not as distracting there as it is in a novel when you're trying to put yourself in the setting and get wrapped up in what's going on. i've found at least one egregious error in each of the harry potter books and some in many others. I feel proud of myself when I run across them, but it is distracting. Kind of like when someone's cell phone rings at the theater. But I get over it pretty quick.

QUOTE(Gnappster @ Oct 18 2006, 11:15 PM) if a published work has a lot of errors it makes me think less of its credibility. If they can't even spell right, then what else about them is poorly researched? I agree! But I also understand that if research took a long time and the article hit the editor's desk just before deadline, a pot of coffee can only make a brain function so sharply. Major errors are frustrating, though. When I used to teach, I would bring in grammar errors from periodicals and such and use them as examples. QUOTE(Gnappster @ Oct 18 2006, 11:15 PM) harry potter? :gay: :nahnah: I can see why you would say that, but HP is an enjoyable, quick read. I do enjoy the stories. I know you like non-fiction more, so I can see why HP wouldn't not appeal to you. But it is a good, fun story and I enjoy reading the series as a break from more serious reading. The movies don't do the book justice and they kind of taint the reading experience a bit. I would say the best thing to come out of those movies is Emma Watson, the girl who play Hermione... she's a hottie!!! True dat! I actually type by the word. my fingeres just know the pattern of the word I'm thinking about. sometimes it gets difficult when I'm more used to typing a word that begins the same way as a word I type less frequently... I'll look back to see what I typed and see the completely wrong word up on the screen and didn't even realize I had typed that. I can't think of an example right now, though. as side note, I can type the word "fluid" amazingly fast. it looks like I'm just slamming my fingers on the keyboard. Just thought you'd like to know.
