I don't want to beat a dead horse, but that still doesn't make sense. If you don't like being solicited in general by anyone, I can understand that. But your rant didn't really say that. A business doesn't HAVE to donate money to a non-profit group, it's voluntary. It's also a tax write off. Plus, a company usually does benefit from some type of advertising, but again, that is the company's job to ensure they are represented after donating X amount of dollars. The adventure group would make sure it has all its expenses covered before embarking on an expedition, including possible rescue support. If they didn't they wouldn't be around very long anyway. If they came to you asking for MORE money to rescue their friend, yeah that is a little shady, but I don't think it's too common. But if you don't support these groups anyway, why would you care if some corporate sponsor (not you) is footingf the bill for rescue. Maybe it's in their best interest. Hell maybe they are a helicopter company that benefits from the added exposure.
You said you sponsored NASCAR. So another company should bitch that you paid money for them have ambulances on standby at a race. Why should they? It's not their money.
