QUOTE(closeup @ Dec 8 2006, 06:07 PM) I find one of the best motivators for employees is called, "Keeping your fucking job". Most grasp the concept quite easily. I can't half tell you are en employer!

QUOTE(Gnappster @ Dec 8 2006, 06:12 PM) that used to work here, and I guess it still does if you have a good job. but there are so many entry level jobs here now there aren't even enough people to fill them. hence, you have some real pieces of work employed at some places. I seriously gotta get my arse to Canada.... act like a jackass, keep your job! Do they need any alcohol salesmen over there?

QUOTE(closeup @ Dec 8 2006, 06:19 PM) Yeah, it's too bad you can't fire another employer's employees. They give you shitty service and you escort them out the door. That would be my version of heaven. I wouldn't need angels and harps, just give me a handful of pink slips. On second thought, I'm not going to apply for that removalist job in Portland

QUOTE(closeup @ Dec 8 2006, 06:46 PM) Even as an employee, I had zero tolerance for idiots. They always say, "Talk to your boss, see if he can work it out. Don't go over his head." Fuck that. I always went right to the top boss/owner and told him what was happening. If he can't fix it, nobody can and you don't waste your time dealing with someone who should have already solved the problem. Oh I hear ya... people are idiots!

QUOTE(closeup @ Dec 9 2006, 12:38 AM) The funny thing is, I get along with almost everybody. BUT, there are alot of my friends I wouldn't want to work for and even more I wouldn't want to work for me. It's a whole different list of qualities I look for in an employee, than a friend. I think most people wouldn't want to work for their best friend. Or have their best friend work for them. Am I right here, or is it just me? I've had friends ask me about hiring them or their friends or someone they know or something like that. while the best way to get quality help is through referral, I try to keep my employees as far away from home as possible. My mother-in-law was even hinting at wanting to work here. I dodged that bullet before it even left the barrel.

I think most people wouldn't want to work for their best friend. Or have their best friend work for them. Am I right here, or is it just me? I have one friend who I think I could work with pretty well, but some others, absolutely no way. When I used to work at a restaurant/lounge, I used to hang out with the people there all the time, made friends I still have to this day. But it was a way more casual atmosphere, and some pretty cool people worked there. It was more like a place I worked, than a job though. It's hard to explain but it was just different. But I think to now, and like bob said, I try to keep work and home as far apart as possible. I don't like to hang out with or see or talk about work or anyone from it when I am not there. It might also be because the people I work with and my boss, I would never in a million years converse with if it weren't for work. Not saying they aren't good people, just waaaaaay on the other side of the spectrum. It's like the 2 Goerge Costanza's. There is work gnappster and home gnappster. They should never cross paths. And the 2 guys my boss is thinking about hiring in the new year, well I may slit my own wrists over the entire ordeal. One guy is my age but he looks like he's 40. He is about 5'8" and 290 lbs, and sweats when he talks. He smells like rotiing french fries. The other guy is this loud overbearing guy, the kind of gut you can hear over top of everything else at a party but who isn't interesting or funny. And he laughs really loud at the end of everything he says. And he never ever shut up. Should be good time Sorry, just had to get that off of my chest.

Sounds rough. all you can hope for is that you can sabotage them and make them look really bad to your boss and get them fired. Get him to hire some hot chicks, then you can set up a webcam and make a little side money. You'll have to give me leech access, though, considering I came up with the idea.

My mother-in-law was even hinting at wanting to work here. I dodged that bullet before it even left the barrel. I agree, I mean I would love to work with some of my friends, but then when I see how they are outside of their work environment, then you realize why they are your friends instead of a coworker. And now since i'm done that organizational behaviour one of the points we had to explain is that why going into a team project or working with close friends tends to not have the goal accomplished in shorter time, is because we are all buddies lookin to catch up and goof off and have beers and screw whatever task is at hand we have ___ amount of time to get it done lol...so yeah I try to keep work separate from friends, I mean it's a little harder for me to do that being still at university, so I usually only work in the summer time when i'm away from school, but in some ways i keep personal friends from home seperate from school friends (mainly cuz we live in areas further away from each other lol)

QUOTE(Macdonald @ Dec 12 2006, 05:36 PM) well said. You can get a lot accomplished working with your friends, so long as none of them are like the supervisor. If you all have to report to someone else for approval and such, I think you could work better with friends, so long as none are in that leader/managerial role. Thanks I wasn't previously mates with the people I work with. However, occasionaly a few of the other sales reps and I get together outside of work related functions and drink beer etc... good guys and girls!

There's nothing wrong with goin out and havin a few beers after work, all in good fun, nothing like watchin the game either at the bar, no matter who you are with co-workers or friends, it's all the same really, just gotta stay away from the water cooler the day after if somethin bad did happen lol
