I've been thinking about starting this topic for a while but put it off. Posting a picture of the Longfellow house in another thread reminded me of this. Here's a chance to post photos of your city/town/country that you think the rest of us might find interesting. Maybe a photo of a favorite bar or pub. Whatever. My old avatar of the lighthouse was along those lines. It's one of the most painted and photographed lighthouses in the world.

They were convicts... not pirates!

Actually, the funniest part comes when she tries to convince us that the pyramids are in Paris and that polar bears really love the glaciers in France. Or the Eiffel Tower is in Egypt and polar bears really love the desert. And, just for those of you who need to get a life, glaciers were in France during the Ice Age and I never claimed these pictures were taken recently.

They were convicts... not pirates!

Mostly pick pockets, debtors and riff-raff as England saw it as a way to get rid of the poor urchins on the streets and empty thier prisons. There were a few harden criminals but most were convicted on petty crimes and couldn't defend themselves due to their poverty. Sailing to Austrailia would be punishment enough...but living there? wow. That was a life sentence. :whipya: :whipya:

like Captain Kidd who was hanged by the neck until dead and then beheaded. After that his body was left hanging in an iron cage over the river Thames... as a deterent for other pirates... :puke:

Very well informed... although my ancestory doesn't date back to the first fleet etc I'd be happy that my ancestors stole a loaf of bread to get me to Sunny Australia!
