You're right, there are exceptions to the rule. Not that baseball isn't hard, it's extremely difficult to hit a ball going 95mph. But learning the game is relatively easy. Not with football. Some sports need lots of brains some need lots of strenghth and agility, football needs it all. Same with basketball. You'd think that if by some freak of nature some guy grew to nine feet tall, he'd excell at basketball. But probably not. A few receivers were sprinters in school, you can't teach raw speed. But they still have to have the skills to get open and catch the ball. Which very few of them have. I think you can be a lucky no-talent and still make millions acting in movies, but luck has very little to do with pro sports.

BTW, I was wondering if any of you sexy women want to take over where Foragoodtime left off. That girl was a real trouper.

If it weren't for the occasional pic like the one attached to this post, I would ignore this thread completely.

Intersting posts. I think closeups covered most of it. But I would never say "no chance". It's often hard to know how someone will transfer over to a new skillset til they try it. It's not like this guy is a slouch. He is still a world class athlete, in a similar sport(well in the full spectrum of sports it's similar). But whether you like the NFL or not, one has to admit these guys are unreal athletes. Top percentiles for speed, size, strength(and bangin ho's  laughing-smiley-017.gif ) I remember a couple years ago Brock Lesner tried out for the Vikings(I think). Now for those who don't know, Lesner was a pro wrestler, which doesn't say much. But before that he excelld at the national level in amateur wrestling. This guy is about 6'4" and 295 pounds. And is an amazing athlete. Extremely strong, agile, fast. Anyway, he barely made the practice squad. It was just too hard to learn the game at that level. Yes he was probably as athletic as the guys he was competing against but they had many years practice on him.
But determination is a powerful thing. I would like to see how he does.

And that is all.

Yeah I agree.... those guys are unbelievable at what they do...

I think Willie attracted interest because he is larger than life here in Aus, almost larger than the game. I cant remember exactly what the article said but he is a giant. A shade under 2m tall and weighs in at 115kg (you do the conversion) and whilst that may not be bigger than half the guys that play ball... he is unbelievably fast for his stature...

anyway, ti was the first real time i've posted in this thread for the right reasons tongue.gif

great pic ..

football and basketball are about fundamentals , and being able to see the court or the field whichever is the case , for football you need to be big , lean , mean , and have damn good side vision ... you have to see the field . its not a hard game I played it for 6 yrs in HS and college , I just wasnt big enough to go on and play pro ... so that in iteself sayd its not that hard ... LOL

the Pats played like shit. They're gonna have a real hard time in the playoffs if they keep it up. On a related note, check this out. This is about Catherine Bell, the woman with big boobs who acted on the show "Jag"

Before the 2001 NFL season began, in a survey of 70 celebrities who had nothing to do with football conducted by “The Sporting News,” she correctly predicted that the New England Patriots would eventually beat the St. Louis Rams in the season-ending Super Bowl by the score of 20 to 17. This amazing prediction was made despite the fact that vast majority of “football experts” didn’t think the Patriots would even make the playoffs much less get to the Super Bowl. She’s the only person to have ever correctly predicted the participants in, winner, and final score of a Super Bowl before a season began in a published article in a major sports periodical or book. Gave birth to a daughter, Gemma on 16 April 2003. Voted #20 in FHM 100 Sexiest Women in the World 2001

Normally just read post here, but just want to hear from all you football experts, do all the "NFL network" games suck with that Gumball asshole in the booth?
Also last night Dick could not even talk and they had him on there until Dion Sanders came to the rescue.
I had to turn the sound down last night between the Falcons and Cowboys. (do not have NFL netwoork, but they showed the game on local station)

Yes, ladies and gentleman, the playoffs are upon us once again. As usual, the Patriots won their division and will be facing the Jets on Sunday. I'd give Bondi's left nut for tickets to this game but they always sell out before I get a chance. So unless I want to pay $1000 (for a pair) to some scalper, I guess I'm gonna have to go to my favorite bar and watch it on their 60" HDTV. With great wings and cold beer. And no traffic, parking, or driving hassle. Sounding better and better....

Hey mate,

I profess to know nothing about the NFL but I read in the paper back here in Oz that there are 2 Australians competing in the playoffs this year?

I can't remember their names but they are both kickers (punters?) for two different teams. They played a game here called Australian Rules Football which has a great kicking skill set and successfuly made the switch... do you know who they are?

Not off the top of my head, but I'm sure I can find out.
Ben Graham and Sav Rocca. Graham plays for the Jets who are facing the Patriots Sunday. Rocca plays for the Buffalo Bills, who suck, and didn't make the playoffs.

Wow I didn't know Sav Rocca made his way into the NFL. You see, the AFL is much more of a southern states game in Australia, I watch it occasionaly but not intently.... There is definitely another Aussie in the playoffs, I read it. I'll see what I can find!

Matt McBriar is the second guy, apparently he plays for the Dallas Cowboys (Who I loved as a kid because of Emmet Brown). He also, apparently became only the second Aussie to be selected in the Pro Bowl?

Ok, ok I know that this is a football thread but I just have to say that on dec 30th my husband and I went to our first live nhl game to watch our vancouver Canucks beat the crap out of the Oilers. It was beyond awesome! We were precisely center ice, 5th row up from the ice behind the penalty boxes! I love the Sundin twins and I got to see them score twice!!!! We were in club seating which means you have to show your tickets to someone to be able to go down to ice level where they serve the good food and drinks. And we got on the jumbo-tron. BEST PRESENT EVER!!!!!!!!!

Ok I'm done gloating.

The Patriots won as I predicted they would. Not it's off to San Diego to take care of the Charges. This will definitely be a tough game but I'm (surprise) predicting the Patriots emerge victorious.

It's called a tailgate party, because people open the tailgates on their trucks and pull out barbecues/food/beer etc. I've only been to ones at CFL games where there are 30,000 fans and they are fun but NFL ones would be off the charts. It's basically a pep rally to get fired up for the game and make it a day long party. They often have live music and entertainment.

I missed your question here. It's called tailgating. I used to do it all the time when I had season tickets for the Chicago Bears. You see, a lot of times the team you're cheering for sucks really bad. so what better way to actually enjoy the outing than to eat food and drink beer before the game with a bunch of friends. or if your team was good, what better way to get fired up and talk shit to opposing teams' fans. if it was a noon game, we'd get there about 8:00 - 8:30, cook some food, drink some beer, play card and dice games, and stuff like that. It probably started out as people wanting to secure a decent parking spot and not wanting to deal with a long line to get into the parking lot. Well, if you have to get to there 4 hours before start time, you might be a little hungry. why not bring a grill and beer?

My friend's dad had 4 seats and we'd go to the games w/ our dads. then our dads got old and lazy and we took over the tickets. When the bears sucked really bad, it would just be me and my friend who would go to all 10 home games of the season, it was difficult to get someone to join us when the tickets cost us $37 and you can scalp them from anyone in the lot for about $5 if you were lucky. Sometimes when it was really cold, we'd just sit in the car and cook hot dogs; but for the most part we'd tough it out in the cold just to enhance the pride factor. over time, our outings evolved into more people going, to eventually meeting other people who had season tickets. our tailgating group got bigger and bigger and we'd cook better food, get there earlier, play card and dice games for money, and try to get hot girls to flash us their boobs. (sorry, no pics). eventually we'd even come back to our cars after the game and start cookin' all over again.

that's just my little side of that story. I can go on and on, but this is long enough. I no longer have the tickets cuz they were in my friend's dad's name (my friend is a junior, so it works out nicely for him). One day he called me and told me he needed the deposit money for the new season cuz he just got the letter. I told him give me about a week and a half cuz at the time I was getting paid monthly and was broke mid month. 3 days later my dad lent me the money so we could just get the ticket money sent in. I called my friend repeatedly, and he never called back. He basically ignored me the whole summer. the grapevine told me that he found someone else to buy what were my two tickets and that was the end of it. I ended up getting a ticket to the first pre-season game. I went by myself on my motorcycle. I met my brother-in-law there and tailgated with him. I went to look for me "friend" and he basically said hi and that was it. I think he was embarrassed or something cuz he knew he acted like a shit head. I don't talk to him anymore, and his life hit the shitter. so there ya go. We were like best friends for years and years. when he got married (after the season ticket debacle) he had 10 guys stand up in his wedding. I was not one of the people he asked. isn't that fucked up? There were 10 people he would rather have had in his wedding besides the guy who knew him since kindergarten. he got a divorce about 6 months later and I never got a thank-you card from them. I guess that what happens when you fuck your ex-best friends new wife.

Actually, that last part was a lie. But isn't that a great way to end that whole long story

Don't get all sensitive. That's what my wife does when she wants me to go out with my friends and drink beer.
Glad you're back; love your front

I'd have an easier time getting a seat on the next shuttle launch then a seat at Foxboro. That's what happens when you win three Super Bowls.

Did you at least pull out the girls for the jumbo tron?
It's called a tailgate party, because people open the tailgates on their trucks and pull out barbecues/food/beer etc. I've only been to ones at CFL games where there are 30,000 fans and they are fun but NFL ones would be off the charts. It's basically a pep rally to get fired up for the game and make it a day long party. They often have live music and entertainment.

Ahh that's it, I saw it on some TV show a few years back, it is an interesting concept.

Before sporting events in Australia, especially Sydney, we just find the closest pub/bar to the stadium and get royally fucked up before entering the stadium to remember none of the following sporting event the following day.

as this is the closest thing to the Baseball thread;

Australian Meat Pies, possibly one of our most famous foods will now be sold in baseball Stadiums at Major League games across the USA...
