I think this is yet another example of why having-to-be-there humor is the funniest humor of all. I've laughed harder at things that have happened spontaneously in front of me than any set-up joke. It comes from being completely unexpected. When you're in an audience, ready to laugh, it takes alot more humor to make you actually laugh.
