OK, let's talk about this. I can't speak for all women, but I DO know what feels good. I think most men tend to be too rough when fingering a clitoris. You have to remember, this is a delicate little instrument. You have to play it with a degree of gentleness. Most guys seem to feel that circular motions around the area is what makes things happen. This is true to a certain extent, because sometimes just the mere touch will start the engine. However, this motion can get very uncomfortable quickly. I believe the best technique is to just lay your finger along side of the clitoris and gently apply light pressure from side to side across the front of it's shaft. As you start to feel it getting harder, just kind of roll it back and forth using more of the flat, print side of your finger. It should get real hard under the pressure of your finger, and you should be able to almost make it "twang" as you wiggle it back and forth. I'm pretty sure that this will do the trick. I know it always works for me.

Hmmm No side to side for me, I have a very honory clitoris she is very stubborn and it takes a lot of work to get her to peak but well worth the effort.
