RMM Message Board _ Shoot The Breeze _ Hijacking

Posted by: paybarraman Aug 26 2005, 08:55 AM

I'm not trying to be a dick or a nag or a whiner, but many of the threads have been hijacked lately and are turning to mini conversations or mini flames and are turning a thread about boobs or whatever into 2 or 3 page conversations btween 1 or 2 people.

It's making it really difficult to work your way through the boards and killing some pretty good threads cause ya dont feel like wading trhough the muck.......

Just my two cents. If people dont agree with me cool....if they do post here and maybe we can calm the behavior.....

I know I am guilty of this like many others, so I think if we ALL monitor ourselves and try to keep our posts on topic it'll be easier to get caught up or to just know what's going on half the time......

rofl nice scream gnappy...and sorry, i know its my fault lol

Posted by: sweetnsexy Aug 26 2005, 05:52 PM

I agree pay has a point - (boys, don't all rise to that!) - and I am certain that I've been guilty of joining in a thread which has galloped away, without remembering what the thread was about, but if there are a group of you involved, and it's a fairly general thread, is that so bad? But if there are just two of you on a thread, it is probably better etiquette to switch to PM or IM to continue... unless you are looking to go up a cup size!

Now, what's the betting that by tomorrow this thread will be 21 pages long and we'll be gently flaming (roasting?) some poor unfortunate!?

Pay guilty as charged. i think we are all guilty at one time or another. Once u get in a conversation u can just get carried away I guess! I do though whole heartedly agree with you and should I find myself in the depths of conversation in the future I will endeavour to use the PM function!

Threads can be easily recovered froma jack around here.

Considering the topic I dont thik it's possible to hijack a thread about hijacking cause the very action of jacking is what the thread's all about .......i guess.... coz.gif

Well I read responses to my WHO ARE THE ASSHOLES thread.. and I do think some thread jacking does occur now... I hadnt seen it til now tho...

But it is the growing pains of a growing forum... I mean if you think about it up until just recently this forum didn't have but a few posters on it.. and not even as many regular posters.

Mebbe some friendly warning to jackers to be courteous of other peoples threads might be in order.. but I still say no Mods.. not at this point.

Forgive me for bringing this thread back from the dead and creating yet another thread for we whores to read through, but I really think the point of this thread need to be revisited!

Posts that have nothing to do with a certain topic, or that atleast follow the general flow of conversation are killing my brain cells.

Posts that flow over 3 or 4 posts, containing content that could easily fit into one posts, are killing my brain cells

Posts that are solely that of an emoticon... are killinf my brain cells!

If any of us wish to make post after post let us do so in our own threads or at least the topic titled "Bored Whores" simply for the sanity of others.

Am I being unreasonable?

Hmmm!! Never managed to get into the art of multiple posts where one will do....could be why I am still only a humble B cup rather than a double G!

But I do agree - and logging onto a thread and wading through page after page of an exchange of one or two words is hard work. To be fair, some people do use a Top Melons thread in their name for this, which is ok, but picking on a general thread is bad form chaps!

Now I am off a'whoring again!!

Bondi- You couldn't have put it better. I agree, sometimes it's really hard to wade thru a thread. I don't think it's a problem that's easily solved simply because nobody thinks they're the problem.

bondi, i could NOT agree more food-smiley-004.gif ...but let me add to that...

Posts that are along the line of "that's funny" or "i agree 2thumbs.gif " with nothing else are killing my brain cells... it's nice you might agree with something or find something humorous, but honestly, i couldn't care less...

Posts that show a complete ignorance of grammar or the ability to spell are REALLY killing my brain cells... i understand simply typos if people are typing fast, but for god's sake, learn the difference between "there", "their" and "they're", etc.
...oh, and if you make a mistake, learn how to use the "edit" button so that i don't have to scroll past ANOTHER post...

I expected a hostile reception on this one... thanks for the support! I agree with each of your additions to my proposed, unofficial rules 2thumbs.gif

While I agree with 90 per cent 0f JRock's comments, I'm inclined to be a little more lenient of the correct spelling requirement. As long as I can understand what someone is trying to say, I'll overlook the way they say it. Too much editing can kill the spontaneity of a conversation, typing or speaking. As for the "I agree" or other one or two word posts, they're just closer to that persons' conversational style. While I agree that it gets tedious and repetitive to scroll through page after page of this, I try to remember that this site is different things to different people.First and foremost, it's supposed to be fun. I think it's asking too much for every post to be a well thought-out, witty, or even entertaining endeavor. Sometimes it takes alot of sifting to find an interesting post or comment, it's even harder now that we can't seem to access all of one persons' posts like before. The bottom line for me is this: It's just pissing in the wind to try to change this, so it's just a matter of gritting your teeth and soldiering on.

You need to be able to go with the flow and that really may depend on how the conversation is going!! It may only need a laughing-smiley-014.gif or a 2thumbs.gif or one or two of the many others that are available. Editing is ok if there aren't too many on, but if there are quite a few of you then forget it!!! They'll understand if you made a spelling error!!

Never has a truer sentence been typed on this wonderful site.

I agree with what you say closeup, I am guilty of the occasional grammar slip up so I can overlook that. I am also not trying to 'bust people's balls' over this topic. I simply think that one on one conversations should be kept to the thread of one of the two individuals in the conversation, or to use the PM tool. If you think of something to add after you have posted, use the 'Edit' feature, it works a treat.

I also have no problem with people getting of track with their comments, lord knows I do it, as long as it is general flow of the conversations at hand.

Anyway, these thoughts are my 2 cents and I just think using these guidelines would make these boards easy to enjoy for ALL users

If you think of something to add after you have posted, use the 'Edit' feature, it works a treat.

I also have no problem with people getting of track with their comments, lord knows I do it, as long as it is general flow of the conversations at hand.

Anyway, these thoughts are my 2 cents and I just think using these guidelines would make these boards easy to enjoy for ALL users

grammar slip ups are allowed, us guys can't look at pix and watch these girls at the same time.
one on one conflabs should stay on their respective threads so the rest of us don't get confused to where a particular thread is going.
bondi i do agree with you and closeup.

Holy FUCK!!!!!!

GANG Lightenup!!!! I am embarrassed that I caused this!!!! My reason for this post was just to try to keep threads on topic because the site was growing so fast that it was getting difficult to get through everything any more!!!

Now, I dont even bother trying. I'll just jump into threads that Im following and ignore the rest. It sucks cause I know Im prolly missin some really good shit but Oh WELL!!!

AS for spelling and grammer and everything else.....as long as I can get the jist of someone's point....WHO THE FUCK CARES!!!!

Although I will say the mixed lower and upper case ebonics style shit is grating on the nerves....

Jrock....im sure Im just chock full of errors with this, but you know what? Oh well.....

Posted by: COMEDYMAN Oct 10 2005, 09:24 AM

Well I go away for a few days and we start getting bored with the tits on the threads and worry about punctuation and grammer?? bang.gif

I know I fuck up alot on my words when I type here like screwing up my liek and knwo alot.. but thats where im a fucking moron....

I hope that doesnt take away from folks on here because I can't get my fingers to work here half the time.. Im one handed typing anyway when im on RMM so I should expect some typos laughing-smiley-017.gif

mixed upper and lower case ebonics??... I havent been here in a few days but I think I know who your talking about bang.gif

Bottom Line there's no reason to censor your posts ... feel free to type the way ya wanna smile.gif This is a Forum Chat you have folks from all over mergin together. Each brings their own styles, quirks and language. Its all part of the game smile.gif

Just Enjoy smile.gif and don't sweat the small stuff 2thumbs.gif

Since this seems to be the thread for jumping on others' style of posting, I want to add this. New topic profusion, and Last Poster Syndrome. I think one of the reasons the threads are so hard to follow is the sheer number of them. I think what happens is this; somebody wants to introduce a topic, fine, but first look in an already existing thread and see if it might fit there. Secondly, let threads die a natural death, some topics are just played out but, and here's my beef, some poster's want to post on EVERY topic, regardless if they have anything useful to say, SOLELY to see their name as the newest poster in as many topics in a row as possible. This keeps threads alive long after their useful life.I don't want to sound like a constant complainer because I enjoy most of what I read, but it's getting harder and harder to do.

Close does have a point about multi threads on same topics... good Idea to use the Forums Search function to see if a thread has been started before and just add to them...

It actually a good forum sign that multi threads are being made.. its a sign of growth. I remember when this forum had very few posters, fewer topics.

The last poster syndrome falls into the category of its all kinds of people on a forum chat You will have that I'm afraid.

I'm sorry, but this is all getting out of hand.

First of all, the title of this thread is inappropriate - to 'denigrate' means to belittle or disparage. What we should be discussing is the regrettable tendency for a thread to be denaturized, misappropriated.....or, in some cases, demolished! Of course, there is nothing wrong in subsequently denigrating those causing said misdemeanours, or, indeed, those who make pompous and pedantic contributions.... gabba.gif

Personally, I just like it when people say that I have a nice body, and ask if I would hold it against them if they said they had a big cock.... 2thumbs.gif

sweet... the only problem with your first paragraph is that the oversensitive people on the site will complain that you are being "mean" or are an "asshole" if you attempt to denigrate them, regardless of how inane or inarticulate their comments are or the degree to which you feel like smacking your head against a wall while reading them (i'm sure you have seen that there are numerous examples of precisely this response occurring)

...oh, and as far as your second paragraph goes, if i told you you have a nice body, would you hold it against me? confused-smiley-013.gif laughing-smiley-014.gif

laughing-smiley-014.gif Hear, hear. Besmirching, calumniating, sullying should be reserved for those misdemeaning pomposities and pedantering, leaving more time for philandering smile.gif

Ok, so I knew I was going to get people all kinds of pissed at me but I am not being some sort of forum Nazi here. What I merely said was if we all try and follow some simple guidelines, EVERYONE would have a lot more fun in a much easier way.

Having said that... Fuck it, do what you please
