I think what also fuels all that debauchery is the fact that these elite athletes likely get little time to form or maintain healthy monogamous relationships, spending most of their everyday lives honing themselves and their careers. That village becomes one giant release valve for deprivation EN MASSE. No surprise at all, it is what it is...in addition to being entertaining for the outsiders :)
