alright, the purpose of this thread is to create a place where anyone can vent about anything... it might be some shit at work, some dickhead on the street, something about society in general that just pisses you off...

i'll start... i hate the city of chicago... they FINALLY get in line w/the rest of the sensible world and pass a smoking ban that goes into effect this month... the catch? they put in a TWO YEAR exemption for bars, clubs and restaurants... great, two more years of me going out and smelling like an ashtray when i come home, having to air my coat out for days afterwards, oh, and yeah, all the shit that i'm breathing in while i'm there... so here's a royal "fuck you" to the city

Well on the other hand, he gave us a public holiday.

He rose again on Sunday and realised he'd missed out on the entire weekend so said screw it, you can have Monday off too!

hahaha that's gold! I'm stealing that bit when I hit the stand up circuit.

Here's another rant. It seems just about every holiday is now on a Monday, which in my neighborhood is trash pick-up day. Since the truck comes by a 7am, most people put it out Sunday night. Then when Monday rolls around and they realize it's a half-assed holiday and the trash is not going to be collected you's think they would bring the trash back. You'd think wrong. We have to use special blue trash bags or they won't pick it up. So these blue trash bags sit there all week while the squirrels rip them open and dine. By Wednesday the street looks like a shit storm has blown thru with ripped bags and newspapers blowing up and down the road. Our tax dollars hard at work.

I'll add my own rant to this. In our old house we had this big ass dumpster for our garbage(it was shared by about 4 or 5 houses. It rarely ever filled up to its capacity.
We move to our new house where we pay 2.5 times the property taxes and the bin is less than half the size. Obviously I had a lot of stuff to throw out after our move but could only put some of it in cuz the bin was almost full so I stored it until the bin was emptied. But then garbage collection day fell on Xmas day and then New Year's Day so it wasn't picked for those 2 weeks. So in all the bin wasn't emptied for 3 weeks. And around Xmas, there is obviously gonna be more stuff that people are throwing out. I can understand them not picking up on Xmas day but at least get it done some time during the week to make up for it.
I ended up hauling it down the alley under cover of darkness and dumping it into someone elses bin that was way bigger.


As for closeup's rant. Just when I think I am a lazy bastard I am quickly reassured that I am nowhere near the top of that heap. When it comes to my house and stuff like that, I would never leave my garbage out there to get ripped up and dirty up my yard. Savages!

What you need to do is see if you can get some bags custom made to match the city's.
In a situatuion like yours where you're getting obviously screwed, you gotta stick it to the man.
$8.00 for 5 bags is robbery!

Your trash doesnt get collected on Public Holidays???

Also, do you guys use those tin/metal garbage/trash cans like they do in the movies?

Do you mean like a round metal garbage can that hold one bag, or like a big dumpster that the truck picks up and dumps.
Depending on where you live in the city, they have all kinds of garbage pickup. Some places, you just leave your trash bags on the curb on garbage day and they pick it up, others have a big plastic bin that they leave by their house and wheel out on garbage day. For people that have a back alley(lane) they have big metal dumpsters that are shared by several houses. That's what we have. Actually, it's not even a dumpster. Dumpster-brand trash bins are top-of-the-line. We just have a Trash-Co waste disposal unit.

I don't know about the movies, all I know is we have to pay $8.00 for 5 bags. If it's not in a city approved blue trash bag, the trash guys will just leave it right where it is. There are no metal trash cans, it's all bags.

I tell you, get some counterfeit bags! I'll find you a supplier if you want.

Fascinating.... I can't believe garbage is just placed in bags.

We have big Plastic garbage "bins" that are on wheels. We have one for common garbage, one for recyclables and one for garden waste and they are each collected weekly for free (well they are included in our annual council rates)

We SHOULD have recycling bins here, but you have to pay for recycling to be picked up which is a joke. But there are big recycling bins all over the city where you can take that stuff to. That's what the cheap bastards(me) do. Garden waste, some people compost themselves, I just throw the shit out.

You'll love this wrinkle-when they raised the price of the trash bags a couple of months ago, alot of stores started selling them behind the counter. Too many people were shoplifting them when they were sold in the aisles. When I move someone out of Portland, I can sometimes get their left-over trash bags if I ask for them. It's not even the money, it's the principle of it; first we could just set our trash on the curb like everyone else in normal society, then someone decided we needed to buy these blue bags. No vote, no referendum, it was a done deal with no input from anyone. Here we have a city council that will haggle and debate for literally months to decide whether Portland can have a Hooters (and decided NO), but passes a law like this in about two days.

I think that about sums up government everywhere.

In Australia people steal cars and DVD players... and we have a Hooters  

We don't have a Hooters but we DO have a restaurant where the onwer hires girls with great cans and has conveniently run out of all uniforms except for size small.
