Ideally, you want a digital camera. So, you can take a lot of messed up photos, and not waste film before you get the right photo. I used an old Olympus Camedia 3000Z. Make sure your batteries are fully charged.

The camera should have a remote, which allows for more control than a simple timer. No breaking the pose to get up and walk over to the camera to take the next shot.

You also need an adjustable tripod. Full size, not the cheap portable ones. Full size will let you tilt the camera sideways. Raise the camera above the subject. Shoot from below, etc.

Find a fairly neutral backdrop so that people aren't distracted by your laundry, pet, Charles Manson for President poster, etc.

Plan in advance the pose you want to try. You can tilt a mirror against the tripod to see how the looks real time.

Check the lighting and color balance. Is the flash going to be enough? Do you need side lights, etc.?

Put the camera in remote mode. Have your S/O sit approximately where you two will pose and check to see how everything looks in the frame. Hopefully, your camera will have real-time autofocus. Most do these days.

Get into position. Try multiple angles. And take multiple shots changing position slightly. Every once in a while, get up to check your results on the camera to make sure body parts aren't getting clipped out of the frame or that there is a focusing problem.

WOW! First let me say thank you to Issac for going so far out of his way and spending so much of his time and energy on my behalf. I just don't know what I would have done without this tutorial. It's true that I don't like taking pictures of myself (for reasons I've already explained on my thread). I never said I didn't know how to do it, or that any camera/accessory was too complicated for me to use. I just prefer not to take pictures of myself. I think that I'm entitled to that decision.
Isaac, the picture you posted is very nice, I like it, and you are to be commended for your efforts. Your decision to do it in black and white makes it even more erotic in nature. There's no doubt that the lady pictured has a great shape, and would make a terrific model. But, I still think that the explanation on my thread as to why I'd rather not shoot my own pics is enough. But thanks for the thought and your help.

The purpose wasn't to goad you into anything. Just to say (basically) that with today's technology, there are a lot less barriers to composing these shots than there were in the day of spot meters. Remember when meters weren't even built into the camera? Or that you had to replace the flash bulb after every photo? Or having 24 photos on a roll of film? I'm old enough to remember. My parents made me hold a pose for like 15 minutes before the settings were right. Now, I can turn on the camera and squeeze off an almost perfectly exposed, framed, and speed adjusted photo, in about three seconds.

And now, anyone can go into a retail store and plunk down about $200 for a tripod and camera and start experimenting. I'm enough of a geek to be terribly excited about that.... :roflmao:
