Ok I am making this post for anyone that keeps track of movies as much as I do. I am a huge movie buff and I love hearing reviews of movies out I often have to wait for DVD allthough the Drivein is open again WOOHOO but anyway so please post any recent movie reviews here.

This week I saw Derailed and In the Mix.

In the mix was no oscar winner or anything but I think it was watchable and funny.

Derailed was really good allthough it was extrmely predictable I called the movie really early on which I don't like but it was still good movie and kept your attention.

QUOTE(Bobaloo @ Aug 19 2006, 12:39 PM)
Lots going on on this thread adn so much to comment on that I'll probably forget half of what I want to say.  I'm not going to quote everything I'm referring to cuz it will take too long.

first:

bondi, I've heard the wallace's soul thing before.  Years ago roger ebert (local movie critic) was asked teh question about that, and here was the reply.  should sum up what people said here.  But I still like the soul idea second only to... whatever the viewer thinks would be that marvelous and beautiful.  ***DAMN!!!  I've spent 45 minutes looking for the damn Q&A article that I was referring to and can't find it.  Turns out it wasn't ebert like I thought.  oh well.  here's a link that explains and also kinda debunks a couple theories, including teh soul theory.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulp_Fiction

Second and nearly final cuz now it's way too late to be messing around here...

I love tarantino projects.  especially PF, kill bill, sin city, destiny turns on the radio, and countless others.  and of course, True Romance will always be an all-time favorite of mine.  Can you think of the xylephone song at the end of True Romance titled You're so Cool?  Well, at my wedding during the recesional, that's what I had played and also when we were announced into the reception.  It was awesome.  the acoustics in our church just banging around that music was so freaking cool!!!

Okay.  there's more shit I wanted to comment on, but I don't remember any of the posts because I've been in this freaking reply window for nearly an hour.  I'm just gonna hit this little reply button now.

Unlike the catch me if you can book, bobaloo's posts are never a quick read haha. Gonna take me forever to reply to all this.
I was sure Ebert commented on the Wallace's Soul thing too. He wrote an entire article on why PF "worked" if I'm not mistaken. OK, found it. Here's what Ebert says:
"The more you watch the movie, the more you're convinced that there is a hidden spiritual level in the plot. Much has to do with the famous briefcase which belongs to Marcellus Wallace, and which Jules and Vincent capture in the apartment. We never see its contents, which emit a golden glow. There have been countless theories about what's in it ("an Egg MacGuffin," said somebody at Virginia), but of course we will never know. What we can notice is that the combination to its lock is "666" -- the sign of Satan. That has led to speculation that the Band-Aid on the back of Marcellus' neck conceals the number "666." Is Marcellus the devil? That's unknowable, but reflect that Jules, who believes he has been saved by God, lives -- while Vincent, the scoffer, dies."
Actually the entire article is worth reading:http://www.godamongdirectors.com/tarantino/faq/secrets.html

QUOTE(bondiguy @ Aug 19 2006, 11:28 PM)
Whats the title and artist for that song, I'd be interested in using it in my own wedding
*

I've always liked that song too. It sounds so much better with Patricia Arquette's monologue with it but it is good on its own too and has been used in plenty of commercials. It's by Hans ZImmer and on the soundtrack anyway it's called You're So Cool, but I don't know the official name of the song, but could hunt it down if you needed it. I never used it in my wedding, but I did the video slide show at my sister's wedding and used that song. It's a good song for a wedding without being overused tripe like Celine Dion or Shania Twain. puke1.gif

QUOTE(Cutie_Pie @ Aug 20 2006, 09:52 PM)
I agree boo he is a really good actor, he did a good job in the aviatar as well allthough I didn't care for the movie itself so much.

Never seen the Aviator... looks too sappy for me
*

Aviator isn't really sappy. It's the true story of Howard Hughes. The mother of all eccentrics. It was a decent movie. Not great but totally worth watching.
Remember when Burns owns the casino and is bedridden with a beard and long finger and toenails.
Burns: Smithers, I've designed a new plane. I call it the "Spruce Moose", and it will carry two hundred passengers from New York's Idyllwild Airport to the Belgian Congo in seventeen minutes!
Smithers: That's quite a nice model, sir.
Burns: Model?
laughing-smiley-014.gif
That's based on Howard Hughes.

Apparently when a soul is taken from one's body it is taken from the back of the neck hence the band aid at the back of the neck. Great article though grinning-smiley-003.gif

Yeah I DL that song thanks mate, I might use it in some capacity. I am having a very non traditional wedding in a sense I do not want the same songs played at my wedding that every other moron has had at their wedding.

If anyone has any obscure songs or alternative song ideas please pass them on! I have a few songs in mind already but with the Ceremony and Reception to cover I'll need a healthy library of music

I cringe whenever I go to a wedding and the play that same Shania Twain song I've heard at a hundred weddings before. Is it that tough to come up with something a little more original.
We chose Baby I love your way by Peter Frampton.

What is the shania twain song they play at tons of weddings??? forever and always?? i can't picture the married couple's first dance to that if that's what you're talking about.

We danced to Come What May from the Moulan Rouge soundtrack. Awesome song, great movie. Many people at our reception hadn't even heard the song before so it was even cooler. There's also a country song by Clint Black and his wife something-or-other called when I said I do. tha'ts a good song to use for the first all married couples dance where the DJ will say everyone who has been married less than 8u hours, 1 year, 5 years et cetera, et cetera, will you get to the longest-married couple. you could also use that song for a first dance. There's millions of other songs I can think of, but I've already been accused of being long-winded in this thread. Can't imagine why? confused-smiley-013.gif

Nope, it's From This Moment puke1.gif .
Whenever they play this or anything by Celine Dion as a first dance song at a wedding my wife immediately looks at me cuz she knows I will be rolling my eyes. But I'm about as cynical as they come haha.

I HATE HATE HATE when they play I will survive, respect, or we are family!!!! I strongly advised our DJ not to play any of those songs. Anytime any one of those songs are played, all the girls get on the floor and turn into complete femi-nazis while dancing all crazy and spiting poor Everyman. Beware. definitely not a good message to be brought up at a wedding.

We met with the head of the DJ company a few days before the wedding. He was a middle aged dude with a pony-tail which almost always means they're pot smokers. Sure enough, I start talking to this dude and I am certain he is baked, but he was a cool guy to chat with. Both being fans of classic rock we were exchanging trivia and our favourite bands/songs. But he wasn't writing much down as far as what we wanted played and what we didn't want played. I didn't want any country music as I despise it, except for old school country, and I said if someone requests a song or two of it, that was OK. I also had some other stipulations I wanted followed. I was thinking as we left, "this guy isn't going to remember any of that!"
Sure enough, wedding day rolls around and the first 7 songs (after the initial songs we picked) played were all country!

typical. our DJ was awesome. Played exactly what we wanted and didn't what we didn't. he kept the dance floor jumpin' and didn't bore you with complete version of songs. You know how the beginning is cool then it just gets old like at the 2 and a half minute mark? Well, he would just mix into the next song. It was awesome. He never gave anyone a chance to take a break.

I did request one song that he never played, though. I wanted him to play Can a Nigga get a Table Dance. That one never was queued up for some reason. unsure.gif
