Outline · [ Standard ] · Linear+ Photography Tips, Curiously....

Not sure if it's of any interest to people (hence the poll), but as a fairly keen amateur photographer I come across a lot of tips and tricks which could be fairly useful to some of the people here. I've also got a pretty good understanding of all the jargon involved and feel I can explain it in such a way that people would understand what I'm talking about (unlike usual).

Granted, pretty much all of my experience is digital, and my Canon is my weapon of choice, but a lot of what I know should be able to be applied to most other brands and formats pretty easily.

So my question is, do people actually want to know this kind of thing and, more importantly, want me to prepare some kind of guide (or guides), or do I just leave this here and go back to my corner?

There certainly are composition and presentation aspects that are worth paying attention to at this site. It's not enough to just point a camera at a beautiful rack and expect the beauty to show up on the monitor. :niceones:

But the fact that this is an amateur site has its charm, as well. :P

I wasn't so much thinking of composition... that stuff is unique for every photographer. Not to mention that most my best shots break all the rules for composition anyways :P And, as you say, that's part of the charm about this place.

I was thinking more tricks for helping focus, shooting with a bright background, self-portraits - that kind of thing.

Nor was I really thinking of graphic design, so much as basic compositional elements and basic techniques such as paying attention to backgrounds, anticipating background-foreground mergers, paying attention to highlights and shadows, choice of focal length, when to use additional lighting etc.  and just plain paying attention to how the 3D real world  looks in 2D in the viewfinder or LCD panel.  There is definitely a 3 dimensional quality about  :niceones: ! Getting that down into a 2 dimensional format sometimes requires a little thought or experimentation.
