We like a wide selection, country/ metal /indy, as long as it has a good tune who cares.

Posted by: paybarraman Aug 10 2005, 06:24 AM

OK, here's what's in my car - where I listen to most of my music:

4 cassettes - The Who - "Quadrophenia"
Jimi Hendrix - "Essential Hendrix" a compilation album
Rage Against the Machine - self titled
38 Special - Wild Eyed Southern Boys (dont laugh, good album)

CD's - 5 Mix disks containing: Frank Zappa, Chilli Peppers, Dave Matthews, G-Love & Special Sauce, Duncan Sheik, David Gray, Fleetwood Mac (new Landslide live), Earth Wind & Fire, Doobie Brothers, Lisa Loeb, Presidents of the United States, Rolling Stones, Journey, Jane's Addiction, Alice in CHains, Rush, The Pretenders, The Goo Goo Dolls, Oasis, Kansas, Train, Todd Rundgren, Vertical Horizon, John Mayer, Squeeze, Blur, Lenny Kravitz, Jet, Mighty Mighty Boss Tones

I also have soundtracks for Rent, Secret Garden, Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera

Other CD's include but are not limited to: Sting, The Police, Pearl Jam, Live, No Doubt, Barry White, Kenny Loggins, local artists, and others I'm not remembering

Vinyl = Jesus Christ Superstar - the original Broadway cast; Grateful Dead, Steely Dan, Billy Joel, Rush, Chicago

Not a big Rap or Hip Hop fan, although there are some cuts I like; I still listen to new rock/alternative along with stuff from my day - although radio in Philly sucks right now (all top 40 or rap formats); and even though I'm really not a country fan, there is a band (i don't know who they are) that I can tolerate.......

How's that for a fucked up mixture of musical taste....... tongue.gif

Posted by: COMEDYMAN Aug 10 2005, 07:58 AM

hate evanesance, seen amy lee with seether and alll i could think was "sucubus, sucubus" im amazed at the quality of the classic rock still listened to, Journey is one of my favorite bands ever. i love Renegade. my music goes from some classical, to older country (Johny Cash, old Garth Brooks) to older rap and a few of the new guys, like outkast and redman/methodman, a little eminem, to classic rock, (pink floyd were gods along with Jimmy and Jimmy Paige) to techno to flat out metal. right now i would estimate a cd collection of over 300, easily, ranging from creed to slipknot to lamb of god, to almost every Fear Factory cd and a good assortment of techno (every TCM) pretty much i listen to just about whatever, as long as im in the mood for it. i got a playlist on my winamp right now that has over 1100 songs on it, ranging from Manson and Mudvayne to Chevelle and Depeche Mode and Deftones. as i say..i like it all *shrug*

Posted by: hott1976 Aug 10 2005, 04:32 PM

I am a huge Fleetwood Mac fan! Sometimes stuck in the 80's ...Duran Duran, INXS (the real INXS), sometimes in the mood for Buffett and James Taylor

Definetly dig Black Eyed Peas...

Posted by: closeup Aug 10 2005, 04:58 PM

Bob Seger, Van Morrison, Neil Young, Springsteen ,James Taylor, Willie Nelson, I did some security work for Journey, got to travel a little with them when they toured. I like their music. I have XM radio and the tuner doesn't stray too far from classic rock.

Posted by: jrock8 Aug 10 2005, 05:28 PM

i'm pretty much into the alternative/hard rock... bands like linkin park, tool, the killers, rage against the machine... but i'll also do more mellow stuff like gavin degraw and amos lee... and i'm not afraid to throw on some classical or even opera (gotta love carmina burana)

but i keep the hell away from pop and country... no thank you...

hasn't been much good music made after the eighties. i still consider ac/dc new kids to rock and roll. it's great living in the past. the best groups ever came from the 60's,70's and 80's. there are no new great musicians or even song writers(i.e. john lennon or jimi) anymore except for the old guys. these new groups, all they know is how to make videos and do interviews on mtv.it's all about the money, the bling bling now. they have no drive to out perform there last record, if they even make a new one after they are rich. there music never progresses. it was made stale and stays stale. there's no life in new music anymore. depressing, isn't it.

Duane, we miss you man.....................

Ok your profile says you're 36......I'm 38 and I was in eigth grade when Back In Black hit the shelves......that would make you about 10.......

You prolly werent even outta diapers when most of the musicians you're praising were in their prime!

Posted by: Brandy Aug 12 2005, 09:59 AM

I like the new music. Coldplay, The Killers, Jet, Goo Goo Dolls, Maroon 5, Nickelback and Train are a few of my favorites.

However, nothing beats Smooth Jazz for the more intimate moments.

I've never had the pleasure of seeing them. I'm sure I will eventually. If I like a band enough I always end up seeing them live.

As far as musical tastes, I have a broad pallette but I do tend to like heavier music best. If you want to try out Mushroomhead, I have some invites to a bittorrent site on which I saw some just this morning while browsing. It is the BEST music oriented bittorrent site.

Poison, Cinderella, Bon Jovi, Dokken. You can take the Aqua Net away from an 80's chick, but you can never take away her need for cheesy music.
Also some old classic country (Cash, Haggard, Loretta), some rap (50 Cent, Ludacris, Nelly, Mariah), classic rock (Fleetwood Mac, Heart, Bob Sieger)...really come to think of it I like about everything except polka!

on the topic of music... there's a good band out there from canada called "our lady peace"... i just heard that they have a new album out but haven't had a chance to check it out yet...

anyone heard it/have any opinions of it? maybe one of our friends from the north have some insight? *hint, hint*

Posted by: Gnappster Sep 9 2005, 02:08 PM

OLP has been big in Canada for years.
Saw em in concert about 7 years back and they put on a great show.
Last album was so-so but I really liked clumsy from 97ish.
I've only heard the first single off the new album and it sounds pretty good. Others have said that the rest of it great as well, so it's probably worth checking out.

Posted by: jrock8 Sep 9 2005, 02:37 PM

really? i thought "gravity" was actually their best album so far... didn't get nearly as much attention as it should have...

i've seen them live 3 or 4 times and they've been great each time... they're playing here in chicago in a couple of weeks but i'm going to be out of town at a wedding bang.gif

Posted by: bondiguy Sep 10 2005, 11:43 PM

Funnily enough sticking with the threads topic I am a huge fan of the whole grunge movement in the late 80's early 90's. Thankg gof because rock and roll was becoming so cliche...

Apart from that alot of aussie bands are in my regular rotation, of which most you wouldn't recognise but if they ever got a start in the states they'd go well. Powderfinger springs to mind... anyone heard of them?

Posted by: Puppet Sep 11 2005, 01:00 PM

I think I like a little of the harder stuff.. not sure everyone would find it all to appealing.

Cradle of Filth, Cannibal Corpse, Slipknot, Mudvayne, Sepultura, Opeth, Lamb of God, ThrowDown .... smile.gif probably not much of them on your playlist!

This thread hasn't been posted in like forever...

I posted this in my 411 but as only a select few ever grace it's pages... I pose this question here.....

"So, of late my life is being consumed with all things weddings (as Bob would know). I am trying to let bondigirl look after most of the things as she is super pumped about it all, and loves the whole process. I on the other hand love beer.... anyway.

One thing I am adamant on is music. Music for the ceremony, music for the reception etc. I am far from being a traditionalist so wherever possible I am using contemporary music. Pop, rock whatever.

I am compiling a list of songs I want to use but I just have to decide on when and how to use them. I am 99% or first dance will be to a song called "Better Together" by Jack Johnson. Also, I am thinking of using "Woman" by Wofmother during the time I will be taking bondigirls garter off.

Anyway, to the point. I wan't to surprise bondigirl with a song during the reception. You know, me with an axe and a mic belting out an acoustic tune.... but what? I am agonising over song choice. Bondigirl isn't as into music as I am, so choosing her fav song is hard because it changes weekly...

Can anyone help me out???"

You'll a kick out of this, but rent "West Side Story" ( I know it's a bit campy) and learn the song "One Hand, One Heart." I've heard it used at more than on wedding and if it is done well, it works. I have never heard of a groom doing it, but in the movie that is its original context. Unfortuantely it usually gets sung by some third rate soprano that is good friends with the bride. (go ahead and laugh if you'd like! laughing-smiley-017.gif confused-smiley-013.gif ) But hell it is Bernstein's & Sondhein's more memorable colaborations. It is also fairly short so that it isn't too hard to pic up.

Thanks for the suggestion but what I highlighted is the problem. I don't want what everyone has has. Otherwise I'd get a Shania Twain, Bryan Adams, Celine Dion mix happening and everyone would be close to suicide!

a question for you boys and girls, I'm looking for a song but I don't know the title nor the performer. I can only tell you that the ref consists of the sentence 'remember me' that's repeated a couple of times. First I thought it was made by Moby but apparently it's not. It has that Moby style tough, can someone help me?

Posted by: JustBreathe Dec 30 2006, 06:27 PM

^^^ I'll look into it for you

I'm a big fan of DnB, breaks and Madonna. I have a boyfriend who spends the majority of his time downloading new electronica, and the majority of the time, it's incredible.

I've also recently come to the conclusion that ColdPlay are a big bunch of pussies from England. However, on that note... Chris Martin has an amazing voice that works so very well while mixed in with Filter and the Chemical Brothers...

Posted by: bondiguy Jan 3 2007, 12:07 AM

I know the song your talking about despite the most vague of descriptions! haha

I just can't put title or artist to it off the top of my head as it isn't really what I am into...

"Remember meeee, and the world who had you baby" or some shit like that right?

Posted by: belgian_french_frie Jan 3 2007, 07:47 AM

Don't know tbh but I'll see if I can find anything with this line you wrote. I'll let you know

Posted by: belgian_french_frie Jan 3 2007, 01:32 PM

ok I found it,the title is 'remember me' (what a surprise biggrin.gif) and the performer is/are 'the Blueboy'

I like that!

We are not doing our "first dance" to that song, merely using it as backing music when we sign the certificate etc... our first dance song is "Better Together" by Jack Johnson

Our dance was supposed to be to "And Nothing Else Matters" but we forgot...I dunno how...when we remembered we didn't dance, we played the song and danced...most everyone was gone which was alright by me!

IN all seriousness though it is a big deal for Aussie bands to crack the US market, with the last 'band' to win a grammy being Men At Work all the way back in 1983
